Rod, about thirty years ago now I came across a Guitarras Estruch classical guitar at a garage sale a block away from my house in Anchorage, Alaska. It was all solid wood: spruce top, Indian rosewood back and sides.

Estruch Guitars "Our brand dates from 1880. The company was founded by Juan Estruch Rosell. His son Juan Estruch Sastre took over and continued the guitar making tradition. At his death (1970) his son Juan Estruch Pipó, took over the firm. From 1880 till approx. 1920 our guitars had rectangular labels and no year of manufacture was written on them.

Juan Estruch was a family line of guitar builders from Barcelona with origins in the late 1800's. Estruch guitars are not terribly well known outside of Spain, but are mid-level well built instruments nonetheless. This model was bought in Barcelona by its one and only owner, and used seldom through the years here in Canada.

He was the father of Juan Estruch Sasate, and grandfather of Juan Estruch Pipó. From 1898 to 1922 they built under the name Hermanos Estruch, and had a series of workshops.
